40 Years of Innovation, Values, and Growth at Morin Supply

A Message from Yanik Morin

2026 marks a special milestone for our company — 40 years of Morin Supply. For those of you who have been with us since the beginning, and for those who joined along the way, I want to share a little more about our story and how the values that built Morin Bros. continue to drive us today.

A Legacy Built by My Father and Uncles

Before Morin Bros. officially opened, the journey began at Orleans Building Supplies (OBS), where my father Gerald, and my uncles Claude and Daniel, got their start:

  • Claude began full-time in 1967, working his way from the yard to General Manager.
  • Daniel joined in 1969, starting in the yard and eventually managing the fleet.
  • Gérald started in 1973, working after school and weekends, and became Operations Manager and Mechanic at OBS’s Moodie Drive location.

They often talked about starting their own business — a way to provide a better life for their families and bring a fresh approach to the industry. In March 1986, over dinner at Al’s Steakhouse on Elgin Street, their vision became reality. By the end of the night, Morin Bros. Building Supplies Inc. was born.

Innovation From Day One

From the very beginning, my father and uncles were determined to bring new ideas to the market, improve quality, and make the work of builders and contractors easier and more efficient. Their approach set the tone for the next 40 years.

In less than five months, they built Morin Bros. and opened in August 1986 in a 4,800 sq. ft. warehouse on Grenfell Crescent.

Making Our Mark on the Industry

Early on, Morin Bros. introduced products to the Eastern Canadian market that would go on to become industry standards:

  • 1987: First supplier in Eastern Canada to bring DensGlass Exterior Sheathing to market.
  • 1988: Introduced Paper/Metal Corner Beads from Beadex (formerly Bead X).

These milestones weren’t just about products — they reflected a mindset: listen to customers, find better solutions, and share knowledge to help everyone grow.

The Same DNA, Today

Today, I have the privilege of leading Morin Supply, carrying forward the same values my father and uncles instilled: integrity, service, innovation, and building strong relationships. Our ultimate goal remains:

To be the easiest building materials distributor to work with — by providing innovative solutions, expert advice, and reliable service.

I’m fortunate to work alongside people who have been here for decades — some of the same mentors who helped shape me. Together, we continue to grow the company while honouring the family legacy that started it all.

Looking Forward

As we celebrate 40 years, we’re focused on what comes next:

  • Bringing smarter, more efficient building solutions to market
  • Making materials more accessible and easier to use
  • Continuing to grow alongside our customers, employees, and communities

The same values that guided my father and uncles in 1986 continue to guide us today. We’re proud of where we’ve come from, and even more excited about where we’re going.
